Stalker Festival

Marit Ilison was invited by Stalker Festival to be the Artist of the festival and design the atmosphere and site-specific installations for the 2012 edition. Stalker Festival took place in a former power plant, current Kultuurikatel / Culture Hub, which was not yet renovated at that time. It was the first time for Ilison to work in the Kultuurikatel. The vast unrenovated space and surfaces allowed Ilison to work freely with different ideas, creating a mapped space of the Zone, referring to the scene from Andrei Tarkovsky’s movie Stalker, which was partly filmed in the same premises in the 1978.

Ilison created 3 site-specific works - The Robot (which remained on the walls of the building till the renovation of the building), The Cross (marking the centre of the whole festival area) and The Gate.
