Hailed as "the true poetess of clothing", Marit is a multi-disciplinary artist and fashion designer mixing deep concepts with feelings, sensitivity and eye-catching form in whatever medium she is currently working at. She has created costumes, site-specific atmospheres, exhibition, interior and set designs. She is playing drums in a psychedelic band, loves sailing and culinary experiments.

Arising from a passion for concepts, pattern-making and tailoring, Ilison’s work, called by the press as “whispered luxury”, is a patchwork of deep ideas and precise, often time-consuming technical execution and craftsmanship while designing timeless ready-to-wear pieces that allow for effortless dressing and comfort.

Trained first as a pattern maker in Tallinn, and studying at Danish Design School in Copenhagen, Marit graduated with Master Degree in Fashion Design from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2008. She then gained experience in London, Antwerp, Paris and Berlin. In 2013 Ilison founded a creative design atelier together with her brother Peeter Ilison. Marit Ilison Creative Atelier works to support and promote the future fashion model by combining luxury, slow and sustainable fashion, unique design and ultimate craftsmanship to create memorable customer experience.

Ilison has been awarded with the most prominent Estonian art award Kristjan Raud Prize and Young Designer Award SÄSI, she was the finalist of the prestigious 29th Hyéres Fashion competition and was named as Vogue Talent in 2014 as well as Vogue Success Story in 2016. Ilison has had and honour the have been invited to present her collection at the cult boutique 10 Corso Como in Milan and is the only fashion designer presented in the newly renovated Estonian History Museum in Tallinn, Estonia.

Ilison’s works has been featured by the top international publications like Vogue, ELLE, The New York Times, L'Officiel and WWD among others.
